They weren’t ghosts of the dead with unfinished business. They were something far more sinister.
Daniel Barrow is a ghost hunter bound to a life of misery; protecting the world from ghosts by killing their human hosts. He knows the rules mark the targets, plot the crime scenes, and then murder those beyond saving. Daniel’s safe in his rituals—until he meets Faye Michaels.
Faye isn’t his average target and her ghosts threaten to destroy everything he has worked for. When his ritual goes wrong, Daniel must create an uneasy alliance with the woman he intended to kill. But the deeper they dig, the closer they get to a dangerous secret that will change their lives forever.
Daniel must make a choice fulfil his duty, or turn his back on those he has come to trust. Can the truth lead him to salvation?
Q & A with the author
Can you start by telling us what inspired you to write this book?
When I finished working on my last set of books, The Shadow Series, I was looking for a new story to write. At the time I was reading a lot of ghost stories, like the amazing, Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake, and The Graveyard Queen Series by Amanda Stevens. I really loved their style of combining ghosts with unique plots I hadn't come across before. That was exactly what I wanted to create; a story that no one had ever read.
Creating my own mythology has been incredibly challenging, but I'm glad this book stands apart from others in its genre.
Why would readers like this book?
I think The Ninth Hunter appeals to a wide variety of readers. Although I classify the book as a standalone paranormal thriller for adults, I think it's also suited to a younger audience. Young adult and new adult are my favourite to read and that's what I had in mind when I wrote this book. The characters are a little too mature to fit into that category but younger readers will still be able to identify with the main character's struggle for identity.
I'm a big fan of mixed genres so this book has something for everyone. It's a fast-paced, action-packed thriller but I've also added a touch of romance, a pinch of horror and an unusual plot, which could almost pass as fantasy.
Who was your favourite character to write?
The main character, Daniel Barrow, wins this hands down! He's such a complex guy, and probably the first murderer you'll genuinely feel sorry for. Although he's done terrible things, he's trapped in a life of misery and at the core, he wants to do the right thing. He's an incredibly flawed hero (anti-hero even?), but he's so good at his job which makes him a complete badass at the same time. While I truly love, Faye, his strong female sidekick, I think her strength somehow adds to Daniel's vulnerability and that only makes me love him more.
And finally, what does it mean to you, to have this book published?
Although I've previously published a set of four paranormal/fantasy novels, this book is by far my favourite. It's definitely the most challenging story I've written and it's been a long time in the making, but I'm hoping I've captured a unique story and created characters that readers will love. Will it be a best seller? I'm not sure, but I had a blast writing it!
The Ninth Hunter eBook Anna Hub
I've read some of Anna Hub's 'The Shadows Series' and found that she has a truly unique writing voice, and creates new worlds and situations which I haven't come across in other authors. The same can be said of The Ninth Hunter, which proved to be another unique tale, and one which I thoroughly enjoyed reading and would highly recommend.
Ms. Hub has taken a Ghost Hunter, Daniel Barrow and achieved something which is very difficult to do. She has made a cold-hearted murderer - for whom killing people is a way of life and a task which he has been trained to do with no regard for the humans he's killing - and made him a sympathetic character. This is no easy task, and whilst initially, Daniel Barrow seems cold in both heart and actions, almost from the very beginning Ms. Hub provides him with small sparks of humanity, which make the reader believe that perhaps he's redeemable and there is much more to this man than initially appears.
Things really begin to get interesting when one of his targets, Faye, becomes the only person who can help him untangle the twisted web of his life - and the interaction between these two characters is done both sympathetically and believably. Ms. Hub shows us how Faye becomes involved and makes it seem like a natural, and required progression that these two people work with one another towards a common goal. The fact that Faye fears and distrusts Daniel is dealt with in a realistic manner and if you are searching for a unique, interesting read, you won't be disappointed by 'The Ninth Hunter'.

The Ninth Hunter eBook Anna Hub Reviews
Good writing and a very different plot line with ghosts deviating into malicious killers of their host humans. Now there are people trained to kill the humans before their ghosts take over. I tried but I could not like this book. Too dark for me. So, I gave this four stars so as not to penalize the author for me not liking the book. Again, the writing is good, etc. For me the characters were unlikable and the premise even I (a lover of ghost stories, etc.) could not get behind.
The Ninth Hunter is an atmospheric story that pulls you in quickly and carries you along on a pacy ride through darkness and discovery. There's an elaborate mystical setting which makes sense because this writer knows how to show the reader what's going on, giving just enough information that you never feel lost - but you're guessing right up to the end.
I had a lot of sympathy for the hero Daniel and loved watching his evolution from the empty, ruthless shell he starts the story as. But I have a real soft spot for Faye, who is brave and generally awesome, despite her lack of knowledge about what the hell is going on in her world! The characters are believable and relatable.
I honestly didn't know how this book was going to end and I read it fast because I couldn't wait to find out! I'm not going to spoil it but the end was very satisfying ) FIVE STARS
This book was action packed from start to finish.
The plot was truly unpredictable but it was the characters I loved the most. Daniel starts off cold and disconnected from the world but as he joins forces with Faye, she slowly brings him back to life. Faye enters the story with timid uncertainty but quickly becomes a tough heroine, and together these characters make this book an unforgettable read. A gripping read.
I read it and dreaded the first killing. I know it was crucial to the plot, but made it hard to continue reading as the tell was told. Eventual a connection was established with the main character as his emotions and humanity catches up with him. I will not read it sequel even though I enjoyed its ending. Once you get past the beginning, it does become suspenseful and an intriguing mystery.
I received this book from the author for free to read and leave an honest review. Daniel has been trained to be a cold-hearted killer hunting ghosts. I think Faye brings him back from the brink of being unredeemable. This book was the first I've read from Anna Hub, and I thought it was extremely well done. The characters are fantastic and well-developed. This fascinating story is very original and like nothing I've ever read before, and it keeps you guessing until the end. I thought this book to be very well written with wonderful and exciting characters, and I liked it a lot.
This book held me in its grip as soon as I started reading it and didn't let go until I had finished the epilogue! A totally different theme of ghost hunters even among supernatural and paranormal books, this book is in its own class with its scenes full of horrific situations combined with a slow, beautiful, humanizing process, a gradual awakening of softer emotions and hitherto unknown feelings. An excellent book that deals with two young lives with one teaching the other how to leave a violent way of life behind and lead a life full of love and other positive emotions.
Thanks for a wonderful book, Ms Hub.
I really wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading this book. In fact, I was never once able to predict what would happen next. The author takes the reader into a dark and mysterious world where the line between good and evil is blurred. I was intrigued by the very different interpretation of ghosts and hauntings and found myself drawn into Daniel's story (and I never expected to find him redeemable but did - nice job, Anna Hub!). This author presents well-developed, three dimensional characters in a well-written story with a great pace. If you're looking for an atmospheric, unique read give this books a go. You won't be disappointed!
